Ed Moses (1926-2018, American) Ed Moses is an American contemporary artist born on April 9, 1926, in Long Beach, California. He was a leader in the Los Angeles art scene and a promoter of Post-War, West Coast art. He passed away in 2018. Moses received his BA and MA from the University of California, Los Angeles, and in 1958 he had an exhibition at the Ferus Gallery in L.A., one of the gallery’s most notable exhibitions. Moses' art shows his interest in the transitory process and the variability of concepts, this makes his abstract art eclectic. His works have been influenced by past theories formed off of pieces made before causing his art to be dynamic. When making his formal abstract work, he experiments with surface type, making striations, cracks, blurs, etc. that in some cases counteract hard-edge geometric abstraction. The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles had a major retrospective of his works and in 1980 he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. Some Institutions that his works can be viewed are the Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
