“My artistic origins are in graffiti writing. Like most of my graffiti comrades, I was focused on accentuating the prominence of my letterforms by creating the illusion that they were three-dimensional although they existed in the two-dimensional framework of walls. As my expression turned to fine art and abstraction, I continued working with illusion to infer three-dimensionality. Working with steel and sculpture I began exploring the transformation of my imagery into actual physical three-dimensional forms. In these works I am using steel rod as a linear element in an alternative drawing process. It is my goal in these works to create sculptures that are bold in structure and architecture, but gestural in movement. Additionally I am excited by the visual changes that occur as the viewer interacts and moves around the piece. As the viewer changes perspective the piece begins to morph. Finally, as light shines across the piece the dichotomy of three-dimensionality and two-dimensionality intersect as the rod castes bold shadows on the walls.” Isaac S.
