Unbound by a singular medium or style, Jonathan Saiz’s work responds to the push and pull of apocalyptic and utopian themes that characterize the human condition. At once confessional and universal, his work is about dreams both realized and unfulfilled. Add a dose of stream-of-consciousness mysticism, and social commentary, and the resulting body of work includes miniature paintings encased in acrylic tiles, drawings and sculptures, full-gallery installations, and NFTs. As Jonathan describes, “The totality adds up to glossy, candy-coated visual narratives imbued with existential dread. It reflects my interest in social and spiritual upheaval along side my fascination with optimistic irreverence and the possibility of darker things to come.”While there is darkness in some of the work, there is also play, joy, and generosity. Jonathan may be best known for his Fall 2019 installation,#WhatisUtopia, at the Denver Museum of Art. Comprised of a gigantic column covered with 10,000 tiny mixed-media paintings, the entire lot of 10,000 miniatures was given away to the public at the exhibition’s end. Jonathan studied at Parsons School of Design in both NYC and Paris and at the Maryland Institute College of Art. He was an artist in residence at Redline in Denver, CO and a visiting artist at the American School of Paris. He is the best-selling creator of The Fountain Tarot in English, Russian, Japanese and German and illustrator of Colorfully Courageous the first children's book commissioned by the Clyfford Still Museum on the occasion of its 10th anniversary. Jonathan’s paintings have been featured in Juxtapoz Magazine’s “NewContemporary” book 2014, Elle Decor2015, and Veranda 2016.
