Barbara Lucile Maples (1912-1999)Born in Temple, Maples gradated from Baylor College for Women, Belton (1933), and received a master of arts from Columbia University (1939). She frequently taught in a summer camp at Ute Park, New Mexico (1939-49), and studied at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center (summers 1943-45). Maples taught art in the Dallas public schools (1937-64), in the art school of the Dallas Museum of Art (1940-54), and at her mountain cabin in Cripple Creek, Colorado during summers. Subsequently she was head of the department of art education at Southern Methodist University, Dallas (1965-78). Maples died in Dallas, and was buried in Temple. B: Temple.
