ROBERT ORMEROD PREUSSER (1919-1992)Robert Preusser was born in Houston, Texas and began art lessons as a child, studying under artist, Ola McNeil Davidson. By his teenage years, his work was exhibited both nationally and internationally, leading him to move to Chicago to study at the Institute of Design. During World War II, Preusser painted camouflage with the Army’s 84th Engineer Camouflage Battalion. He moved to California after the war to complete his formal education at the Los Angeles Art Center School.After relocating to Texas, Preusser joined the faculty of the Museum School (now Glassell School) of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. He was a founding member of the Contemporary Arts Association (now Contemporary Arts Museum) and served as co-director. He designed sets for Houston’s Texas Stage, taught at the University of Houston, and was Associate Curator of Education at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
