DAN WINGREN (1923-1999)Dan Wingren was born in Dallas in 1923. Wingren taught at Southern Methodist University (1946-1947), the University of lowa (1948-1950), and the University of Texas, Austin (1950-1958). He was the director of the San Antonio Art Institute in 1959 and taught at Southern Methodist University, Dallas (1959-1991). Wingren was awarded the Catherwood Foundation Traveling Fellowship in 1957. After returning to Dallas from San Antonio, Wingren taught classes at the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts School. He lectured on art in numerous venues. His work appeared in The Texas Gulf Coast: Interpretations by Nine Artists, 1979. His archive are housed at SMU, consisting of Wingren's figure drawings and a sketchbook from his tour to France and Italy in the mid-1950s, his class lecture notebooks, and his manuscript, Design and the Visual Image.
