Nathan Solano started his career as an artist at the age of 40 with no formal art training. The Utah native attended the University of Colorado for a year before being drafted, spending a year in Vietnam as an infantry sergeant. Upon his return from service, Solano worked in a steel mill, as a roofer, as a waiter, a bartender, but his work with several advertising agencies as an illustrator and art director ultimately had the greatest impact on his calling as an artist. In 1987, Solano began painting for a living and never looked back. Two years later, he moved back to Colorado, where he has resided as a full time artist ever since. His subject matter includes Colorado landscapes, wild horses, Native Americans, cowboys, and ranch life, all observed through his own experiences, and often studied en plein air. Nathan Solano's work has been featured in prominent publications such as Southwest Art Magazine, Art of the West, The American Cowboy, The Artist Magazine, Cowboys & Indians, Taos Magazine, Western Art Collector, Western Horsemen, and Wildlife Art. His work has been included in the "Qwest for the West" annual art show and sale at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art in Indianapolis, Indiana. Solano was recently awarded Honorable Mention for Artistic Excellence (2020) by Southwest Art Magazine.
