Cathie Kayser is a Houston artist whose work is in collections in Houston, Los Angeles, Seattle, Cincinnati, and Tel Aviv. She has participated in numerous local and regional group exhibitions. Kayser is a founder of PrintMatters, an arts organization she began with four other artists in 2009. In 2010, they started PrintHouston and Rockin’ Rollin’ Prints. Kayser is studio manager, along with being the printing assistant to master printer Patrick Masterson, at Burning Bones Press. She works in a variety of printmaking techniques––lithography, woodcuts, intaglio, and monoprints, and teaches workshops in polyester plate lithography. Artist Statement "While I sketched, I wrote and I read. I took notes. Then I sketched some more. While reading Jung, I came across the word ‘katabasis,’ a descent into the underworld. I thought about how we walk atop the earth while secret chambers are forming beneath our feet. I feel satisfied that the pieces chosen for this exhibit reflect an underlying structure, but tell their own stories."
