As an active and exhibiting artist, my commitment is to continue and further the boundaries of the representational tradition in Western art. My emphasis is landscape and my images usually contain a combination of both man-made and natural motifs. My paintings are primarily executed on hardboard panels and paper in a wide variety of sizes and proportions. Acrylic is my medium of choice. Most of my paintings are begun and finished in the studio and utilize a broad array of source material in their development I will often use small pencil, pen, and charcoal sketches, as well as photographs done on site, to assist in the formulation of a resolved image. Memory fragments are also important in this development. I find the patina of memory to be a fascinating element in the formulation of my work. A consistent and recurring theme throughout my work is the interrelationship between man and the natural environment. Because of this, many of my painting utilize agricultural and small-town subjects. This allows me to fully explore these complex relationships while enabling me to depict the rural and natural environment for which I feel a deep and abiding affinity.
