I am a sculptor who's primary medium is hot glass. No other material moves like glass when it's being sculpted hot. The many different ways it reflects, absorbs, and transmits light are unique. My pieces are usually acid etched or sand blasted to remove the shine. The viewer's first response should be to the form, not the material. Only on closer inspection should they discover that the work is sculpted in glass. My work reflects a lifelong interest in native cultures around the world, both modern and ancient, including the tools, vessels, and ceremonial objects of everyday life. Traditional Japanese potters are an influence for their simple, almost primitive, but very elegant forms. Many of the glorious shapes and colors found in the natural world resonate deeply with me. I love working with color and surface, gesture and form. All of these things that attract me on a visceral level combine to influence the work that I make.
