Coming from a small town in North Carolina, I have always dreamed of what it would be like to live in a big city. So much activity whirling around, a life full of excitement. I moved to Atlanta, GA not too long ago and realized that no matter how fast life moves around you, it is important to be reflective. For me, art is a form of meditation. It has always been my safe haven. It is the one place I can go where the chatter in my mind stops and the creative process takes over, helping me to be present in the moment. At a young age, I discovered the magic that happens when I pick up a pencil or paintbrush. I didn't quite understand it at the time; all I knew was that in those moments, I could be free and create anything that I wanted. In those times, life was still. The worse was quiet; but inside of me was a vibrant and energetic being waiting to burst out. I am extremely blessed to share my excitement of the visual arts with children as a K-5 art educator. Picasso once said, "All children are born artists, the challenge is to continue to be one when you grow up!" I guess for some, the value of creativity fades over time. For some, it may be snuffed out by fear. For me, I know that it is my lifeline.
