"Maybe it was the juxtaposition of beautiful countryside with an urban drabness and pragmatic attitudes that motivated not only me but so many artists to reflect on our understanding of beauty, meaning and purpose, causing us to adopt a more expansive outlook. Without doubt our surroundings shape how we feel, think and act. I feel it is my role as an artist to create a pause for contemplation by embracing that which is new and highlighting the wonder of what is already there,” Jeremy recollects about his upbringing in mining country. ABOUTEven as a young child Jeremy found himself drawn towards abstract expressionism, with an appreciation of purity of form he found the works of local artists Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth both inspiring and liberating. From an interest in science and philosophy emerged an appreciation of the natural forces that shape our world and the interpretations we impose on it. "As I work I am acutely aware that nature champions great design. From the shaping of a beach pebble, via eons of erosion, to the waves found in desert sand, I am often awestruck by the beauty created by natural physics. My work conveys a sense of balance and peace as I strive to seek a seemingly impossible equilibrium between the elegance and dynamic complexity of the world in which we live.” Educated in Fine Art and holding a BA in Product Design, Jeremy has been a full-time sculptor for more than 20 years. His works can be found in public spaces and private collections in many countries. He now lives and works near Toronto, Canada.
