Patricia Thomas's knot drawings speak of loopholes to be exploited, of bold decisions and risk, of appropriateness, and of the Turkish way of fastening a bowstring. Her work explores events happening in social, political, and economic realms. A series of large scale figurative drawings of homes, sheds, and shacks considers the basic human need for shelter. In this case, the knots are lines in tension about to shift their contents. Her recent color grids interwoven with curving lines are reflections on racial bias in the wake of contemporary instances of violence and discrimination.Patricia Thomas moves between studios in Oakland and Point Reyes Station. She has exhibited at various venues, including the Oakland Museum of California at City Center, Museum of Contemporary Art in Santa Rosa, and SLATE contemporary in Oakland.
