Kathryn Arnold is an artist who mainly works with painting. By applying abstraction, Arnold formalizes the coincidental and emphasizes the conscious process of composition that is behind the seemingly random works. The thought processes, which are supposedly private, highly subjective and unfiltered in their references to dream worlds, are frequently revealed. Her work urges us to renegotiate painting as being part of a reactive medium.Her paintings feature coincidental, accidental and unexpected connections which make it possible to revise art history and, even better, to complement it. Combining unrelated aspects lead to surprising analogies. By experimenting with aleatoric processes, she creates intense personal moments masterfully created by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, luring the viewer in a heartbeat into believable yet incomprehensible spaces, fields of color and marks. Such is aesthetic space/immaterial intuitive space.Kathryn Arnold’s works typically do not reference recognizable form. The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted. By rejecting objective truth and narratives, she creates an unprecedented situation in which the viewer is confronted with the conditioning of his/her own perception and has to reconsider predisposed positioning.Kathryn studied at the Kansas City Art Institute for three years and completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting at the University of Kansas, Lawrence with a Phi Kappa Phi honor. She completed her (MFA) Master of Fine Arts in Art with Honors. (Lawrence, Kansas is where William Burroughs resided the last section of his life and Alan Ginsberg a frequent visitor. Her work is included in numerous public and private collections.She exhibits nationally in galleries, universities and art centers and is a NEA Regional Fellowship recipient.
