Marie was born in Sèvres on April 19, 1856 and received her artistic training with her father - the great landscape and animal painter Eugene van Marcke (1827-1890). Like her father, Marie specialized in landscape paintings that featured cattle and figures. Her canvases were often large and the animals were typically placed in the foreground. The cattle were not only powerful and natural, but beautifully rendered. Through Marie’s choice of colors and technique (combining Impressionist and Academic teachings) the overall compositions are warm and inviting. Marie exhibited her first work at the Paris Salon in 1876 and continued to exhibit there throughout her lifetime. In 1884 she received an Honorable Mention at the Salon and the following year she received the third class medal. She exhibited at the Universal Expositions in both 1889 & 1900 – earning the Bronze medal. Like many of the artist’s during this period collectors throughout the world eagerly sought her works and American collectors purchased many of her important paintings. Today examples of her work can be seen in the following museums: La Rochelle – Vaches au Pâturage Mulhouse – Le Repos Rouen – Le Sommeil Marie was born in Sèvres on April 19, 1856 and received her artistic training with her father - the great landscape and animal painter Eugene van Marcke (1827-1890).
