June Sekiguchi makes sculptures and immersive, large scale installations that are pattern based, modular and site responsive. She processes, deconstructs, and re-structures forms, focusing on metaphorical interpretations of the source material. Her work is primarily made of engineered wood panel, which she then cuts intricate patterns into with a scroll saw. Sekiguchi is an arts activist and advocate co-founding and participating in several non-profit and artist run spaces in the Seattle area. Her interests in and out of the studio involve social justice issues, cultural exchange, mental health, and elder communities. She is currently an independent art curator for Era Living. Sekiguchi was awarded an Artist Trust Fellowship in 2015, a GAP grant in 2007, five 4Culture grants, and a sculpture scholarship from Pratt Fine Arts Center. She has done artist residencies in Luang Prabang, Laos, the James and Janie Washington Foundation, and Willapa Bay AiR. Regional exhibitions include the Wing Luke Museum, Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, and the Bellevue Arts Museum Biennial exhibition: Knock on Wood. Her work is in private and public collections, including Seattle Portable Works, Ethnic Heritage Gallery at the Seattle Municipal Tower, and internationally in Laos, Morocco, and exhibited in Sweden.
