Each of Donaldson’s vibrant compositions are a testament to her well-earned reputation as a master colorist whose signature style embodies both a sense of intimacy and innovation. Her acuity for creating illusions of depth and light are significant. Fusing oil paint with crushed natural pigments, Donaldson then applies the paint to the canvas in an exuberant manner. The artist’s practice is to engage with the painting’s surface in a direct fashion that is both additive and subtractive. Often beginning with a freely applied first layer of spray paint. Donaldson then employs luscious oil strokes across the canvas’s surface repeatedly adding and scraping back selected areas of the composition. A native of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Amy Donaldson has exhibited internationally in London, Spain, New York, Chicago and California.
