Ana Morán is a contemporary abstract artist from Valencia, Spain. Her artistic training began when she took a yearlong sculpture course at the School of Arts and Crafts in Salamanca. Morán then went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, where she studied from 1998 to 2003. Before pursuing a career as a full-time artist, Morán worked as a conservation and reservation artist in Valencia. Currently, her works are actively shown in galleries in Spain and are within several private collections in Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona, and León. Morán’s elusive, abstract paintings challenge the conventional notions of light, space, color, and form. These compositions begin with a layering of color and shape and are then enhanced through her experimentation of light. Light, perhaps the most important quality of her work, plays on the surface of the canvas, while translucent shapes float in space amid the light matrices. Morán’s softening of forms and lines blend and unite the spaces within the canvas. A look of spontaneity is created via her variations of tone and color, as if the entire painting was conceived in a single moment, emphasizing the naturalistic quality of her work. Morán’s works convey a connection to nature and the ephemerality of life. The layering of color, form, and light becomes a metaphor for life: what is not the surface is not all to be seen. There is more to be appreciated as we perceive each layer. Each canvas is a vast pool of experience - the surface glistens and radiates, but the discernable depths draw in the viewer, simultaneously enchanting and mystifying them.
