Andy Baxter’s artistic journey draws heavy influence from Key West's rich artistic cultural heritage. His work ranges from ethereal glass wire sculptures that seem to float effortlessly in space, to a whimsical representation of wildlife, each piece meticulously crafted to evoke a sense of wonder. Andy’s sculptures are an homage to the renowned Key West artist Suzie Suzek dePoo. Utilizing original materials salvaged from the restoration of her estate, Andy constructs color-conscious depictions of local creatures like birds, insects, or manatees. These sculptures, created in dePoo’s former studio—now a thriving enclave for local artists and musicians—echo the spirit and wildlife of the island. Alongside his wife, poet Cas Still, Andy has not only contributed to the restoration of notable historic landmarks, but also co-founded the Key West Goombay Arts Festival in 1986. Residing for many decades in Key West, Andy continues to work fostering a community of creativity and heritage. His work and life in Key West celebrate the fusion of history, art, and community, making him a quintessential figure in the island's vibrant art scene.
