Born in 1937 in Kincardine, Ontario, and passed on December 30, 2009, Barbara Caruso was a visual artist who used painting, drawing and printmaking in her colourful and orderly works. She also received a travel award from the Canada Council (1971) and other awards from the Ontario Arts Council. Caruso was also an author of art, penning two volumes of memoirs. Her work has been exhibited since 1966, most notably in public galleries such as the Agnes Etherington Art Centre in Kingston (1979), Confederation Centre Art Gallery in PEI (1977), and Owens Art Gallery in Sackville, N.B. (1975). Caruso has also participated in many group exhibitions such as The Empirical Presence in Montreal (1991), the Formalist Encounters in Woodstock Ontario (1986-87), Stimulus '78 (1978) and the Festival of Women and the Arts (1975) in Toronto, amongst many others.
