Bibby Gignilliat is a mixed media artist whose bold, layered works transform found materials into vibrant contemporary collage art. Based in Sausalito, California, she is known for reimagining scraps of everyday life—whether childhood letters, wallpaper fragments, or billboards gathered while traveling—into compositions that radiate energy and discovery. Her process celebrates imperfection and transformation, what she describes as “a dance between putting down, letting go, covering up, and beginning again.”A lifelong creative, Bibby’s path to art was unconventional. Before fully embracing painting in 2017, she built a career spanning computer programming, marketing at Williams Sonoma, and entrepreneurship, founding and growing a nationally recognized culinary team-building company. Yet her early love of painting persisted, and in 2014 she committed to her practice, ultimately selling her business to focus entirely on art. She now paints and teaches from her large, light-filled studio at ICB ART on the Sausalito waterfront.Bibby’s work has since been juried into international exhibitions and featured in Bay Area museums including the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco and the Triton Museum in Santa Clara. Her pieces are held in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and Europe. Bibby’s philosophy extends into her teaching, where she fosters a spirit of curiosity and freedom. “Everybody is creative,” she says. “It’s just a matter of how you express it.” To date, she has taught more than 1,700 students worldwide, encouraging each to release doubt and discover their own visual language.Read more about the artist in Scraps, Stories, and Second Chances: How Bibby Gignilliat Reclaimed Her Creative Life.
