Bob Keating is an American sculptor whose work is grounded in an acute awareness of material, gravity, and balance. Working primarily with steel, concrete, and stone, Keating approaches sculpture as a physical negotiation between weight and suspension, presence and restraint. His forms are spare yet expressive, allowing the inherent properties of each material to guide the work’s structure and affect. Keating holds a BFA in Sculpture from the Swain School of Design. His practice is informed by close observation of natural forces and geological processes, often incorporating quartz as both a structural and symbolic element—serving as a point of stillness within compositions shaped by tension and mass. Alongside his sculptural practice, he produces sumi ink drawings and prints that extend his interest in gesture, balance, and immediacy. His work has been exhibited widely in the United States and internationally, including presentations in Venice, New York, and Connecticut, and is held in numerous public and private collections. Keating lives and works in Connecticut.
