“I find the direct, immediate experience spellbinding. I have strived to create images that reflect just that, and it is a daunting but inspirational process. There is power in the moment and painting is a way for me to be present. The impulse to respond visually has always driven me. I go into the land, render a model or paint a portrait from life to see what I can see – mind, body and spirit.” Brent Lynch has created award-winning artwork both nationally and internationally for over 40 years. His distinctive compositions, both figurative and landscapes, move with energy, intensity and poetry to create pictures with a sense of presence – and always a story. These trademarks of Brent’s work are the result of his passion for painting from direct observation, whether life drawing in the studio or painting in the field. It is this raw, immediate connection with his subject that is the constant and impetus on his journey as a painter. In his early career, Lynch operated at the top of the field as an illustrator, painter and designer. His work was commissioned by leading corporations, agencies, publishers, professional arts and sports organizations. However, it was his distinctive artistic event posters that were popular and created a strong following. The original paintings for these commissions hang in collections around the world. Throughout his career, he has been honoured with many coveted national and international arts awards for his work in painting, illustration and design. When he’s not traveling, you’ll find him in his studio on Vancouver Island, painting on the ocean shore of the northwest…his home.
