Bruno Zupan was born in Trbovlje, Slovenia in 1939. His artistic career began studying in Zagreb, Croatia and then emigrated to Paris in 1962. After his sojourn in Paris, he married Jane Ritchie in 1964 and moved to the United States where he became a citizen in 1969. In 1976, Zupan was awarded lifetime membership in the Society of French Artists and received further recognition after being commissioned for the First Day Covers for the World Federation of the United Nations Associations philatelic program. Zupan moves between Paris, Venice, and Mallorca to paint year-round, and has limited edition graphic works displayed in Paris and Mallorca.Art critic Ed McCormick, described Zupan’s work as such: "The real magic is in the paint surface itself, with its energetic bravura strokes, splashes, splatters, and drips forming a unified statement, as active, alive, and visually autonomous as an Abstract Expressionist work by de Kooning or Diebenkorn- yet simultaneously evoking the word outside the canvas.
