Luis Enrique Camejo (b. 1971, Pinar del Río, Cuba) is one of the most acclaimed contemporary Cuban painters of his generation, celebrated for his atmospheric depictions of urban life and his masterful command of light, movement, and mood. A graduate of the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), Camejo has developed a signature aesthetic in which cityscapes, figures, and fleeting moments dissolve into dynamic washes of color and expressive brushwork. Camejo’s work often captures the rhythm of modern cities—rain-soaked streets, blurred headlights, silhouettes in motion—creating paintings that feel suspended between realism and abstraction. His canvases explore themes of temporality, memory, and the relationship between humans and the environments they inhabit. Through layered transparencies and controlled spontaneity, he constructs images that pulse with emotion, atmosphere, and cinematic presence. His career includes numerous prestigious exhibitions in Cuba, the United States, France, Spain, Italy, China, and the Middle East, with solo and group shows in institutions such as the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana and leading contemporary art fairs worldwide. His work is included in important private and public collections, including the Luciano Benetton Collection, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Havana), and international corporate collections. A founding member of the influential art collective Los Once, Camejo continues to be a central figure in Cuban contemporary art. He currently lives and works between Havana and Madrid, expanding his exploration of urban poetics through painting, drawing, and multimedia projects.
