Carl Johann Spielter lived from 1851 to 1922. In 1876, Carl Johann Spielter was a commercial apprenticeship in Bremen and Liverpool. He then settled in Munich to study at the School of Applied Arts under the guidance of Ferdinand Barth. He later moved to the Academy where he studied with the Hungarian portrait and history painter Gyula Benczúr, the genre and history painter Otto Seitz and the history painter Gabriel von Max. In 1881, Spielter moved to the Academy in Vienna and became a master student of Hans Makart. His works were very popular during his lifetime and still achieve high prices at international auctions. [Biography via the archives of AskArt]
