Carlos García de la Nuez is a leading figure in Cuban contemporary abstraction, celebrated for his lyrical compositions that fuse gesture, texture, and color into deeply contemplative visual fields. His work bridges the poetic spontaneity of abstract expressionism with the structural precision of geometric form, creating paintings that feel both spiritual and architectural. A graduate of the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts in Havana, García de la Nuez rose to prominence as part of Cuba’s dynamic 1980s generation of artists, contributing to the renewal of abstraction in the postmodern Cuban art movement. His practice reveals a profound sensitivity to rhythm, material, and balance, exploring the subtle relationship between surface and emotion. Over the past four decades, García de la Nuez has exhibited extensively across Cuba, Spain, France, the United States, and Latin America, with notable exhibitions at the National Museum of Fine Arts of Havana, Galería La Acacia, Galería Servando, and Art Basel Miami Week. His works form part of significant private and institutional collections worldwide. Today, García de la Nuez continues to live and work between Havana and Madrid, developing a body of work that embodies introspection, structure, and timeless visual harmony.
