Carlos Ramirez was born in Cuba but moved to the United States when he was a child for political reasons. Growing up, Carlos demonstrated an affinity for drawing and painting - but as the only child of an immigrant family, his parents wanted their son to have a structured profession, rather than taking a chance on a career as an artist. After pursuing an architectural degree and applying to law school at his father’s request, Ramirez received a full scholarship to the University of Miami Law School, where he excelled in his studies. He left the program in his final year to follow a vision of putting a fashion collection together. At age 23, he established the label Liancarlo, where he dressed dozens of celebrities and has been featured in countless fashion magazines. Throughout the years, he became a designer by day, painter by night, taking workshops with such great painters Wolf Kahn—making time to pursue this life long passion. Today, Carlos is happy to devote all his time to painting in his sunlit studio in Arizona. “My work relates to nature as I see and experience it daily… I find myself swept up by the world around me, losing myself in its majestic beauty. My paintings are not an attempt to replicate the places I have been to - but rather an homage to the memory of those moments, capturing their essence in color and movement.” - Carlos Ramirez
