Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Carolyn Holman drew inspiration from the subtleties and intricacies of nature—learning early to listen to its quiet voice. Her paintings reflect that deep connection, embodying the innocence, generosity, majesty, and magic of the natural world. Carolyn studied Illustration and Graphic Design at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California. After a decade of freelance illustration, she shifted her focus to painting intuitively—embracing spontaneity and emotional honesty in her creative process. While still in art school, she won a Time Magazine contest for the 1986 Summer Olympics, earning a full-page feature for her expressive, experimental work. That recognition affirmed her belief that a freer, more instinctive style could connect deeply with others. In 2000, Carolyn discovered encaustic painting and was soon featured as a represented artist for Sundance Catalog, where her work appeared for over a decade. After stepping away from painting for ten years due to injury, she joyfully returned to the studio in 2020, now working in acrylics and collage. She was welcomed back into the Sundance artist community until its closure in 2025, a creative partnership she treasures. When she’s not painting, Carolyn works alongside a functional neurologist and chiropractor, helping patients recover from head injuries through therapeutic modalities. She continues to paint from her mobile home studio, grateful to live a life filled with creativity, healing, and purpose.
