Cheryl Martin is an Arizona artist and Minnesota native who has been drawing and painting for as long as she can remember. A lifelong explorer, she spends much of her time outdoors—mountain biking, backpacking, and wandering desert trails. Those experiences of open skies, shifting light, and quiet, wild spaces flow directly into her work, whether she is creating evocative landscapes or richly textured abstract compositions. Working in an intuitive, layered process, Cheryl builds her paintings through veils of transparent color, marks, and shapes that seem to float in conversation with one another. She is fascinated by what happens when one layer of paint just peeks through another, suggesting time, memory, and the delicate connections found in the natural world. Each piece becomes a record of discovery—of color relationships, textures, and rhythms inspired by the land she loves. Cheryl holds a B.A. in Art from Nebraska Wesleyan University and an A.A. in Graphic Design. Since moving to Arizona in 1989, the rugged beauty of the desert and surrounding landscapes has been a constant source of inspiration, offering endless possibilities for her ever-evolving style and technique.
