Chris Tille (b. 1971, Germany) works at the intersection of science and art. With an early background in classical photography acquired in Innsbruck, Austria, he now uses photography, installation, and sculpture as tools to visualize complex data sets—making scientific principles and discoveries more accessible and emotionally engaging. His series draw from a wide range of research fields, which he interprets and reimagines as multisensory experiences, meticulously reconstructing them into large-scale objects and works that return information to the public in new, tangible ways. Unlike traditional artists who use brushes, pens, cameras, hammers, chisels, or computers, Chris Tille employs satellites, expedition ships, medical instruments, and other scientific tools to express his emotional and intellectual ideas. For him, these high-tech instruments form a vast creative playground—one where art and science fluidly merge. His works are part of major international corporate, private, and public collections. He maintains ongoing dialogue and collaboration with leading research institutions such as the Max Planck Institute (Garching) and NASA (Washington). In 2022 and 2024, he was honored as one of 99 future Blue Chip Artists worldwide. Additionally, he was named a FAZ Vordenker, an honor recognizing forward-thinkers who shape the future through visionary ideas and interdisciplinary innovation. In 2025, he received the Maurice de MauriacAward at Photo Basel.
