Born in the post-war era, Christine Southworth’s early life had a profound influence on her artistic development. Her talent was recognised early; at just 15, she was awarded a scholarship to attend art college, where she mastered a breadth of disciplines including etching, lithography, drawing, and painting, eventually earning a degree in Fine Arts. Following her studies, Christine embarked on a distinguished teaching career, serving as Head of Art at the Bolton School Boys’ Division. Throughout her tenure, she remained committed to her own practice, exhibiting extensively across England and Canada and establishing a reputation as a serious portrait artist. Today, Christine is an active member of both the Society of Women Artists (SWA) and the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts (MAFA). Her excellence has been recognised with numerous prestigious accolades, including the ‘Barbara Tate Award’ at the Mall Galleries and the ‘Best Body of Work’ award from the SWA, who also selected her painting for the front cover of their annual catalogue. Her most notable commission to date was for the late Princess Diana. While she has mastered a wide range of techniques over the years, Christine’s preferred mediums are currently charcoal and oil paint. She specialises in painting figures from life, favouring natural poses that capture a fleeting moment in time. Personal Statement'I concentrate on working in oil paint on canvas from my home studio. Painting every day, I remain totally committed to my art and have been fortunate to win awards in London and exhibit venues throughout the country. Some of my most memorable clients have included the late Princess Diana, Lord Leverhulme, and Lord Carlisle, alongside many other wonderful collectors.'
