Claire Jacobs creates abstract oil paintings with richly layered surfaces. Her work explores the balance between the spontaneity of gestural marks and the intentionality of organized shapes. She views each painting as a journey; every layer of paint creates a new set of challenges to respond to, until a finished piece emerges. Born in Gastonia, NC, Claire’s passion for art began at an early age. She spent her youth filling up sketchbooks and taking art classes. Claire then went on to study studio art in college, receiving her BFA from Clemson University. Additionally, her love of creating led her to study art in England and Italy. Claire’s work is found in private, university, and museum collections throughout the US. She lives in Charlotte, NC, and spends most of her time painting in her studio at Dilworth Artisan Station.
