Claudia Doherty is a New England–based contemporary painter known for her evocative oil and acrylic paintings that balance beauty and melancholy. Her original artwork is held in private art collections around the world, and she is recognized for her moody, earthy color palettes, richly layered surfaces, and emotionally resonant compositions. Through textured brushwork—often scraping and building layers of paint—Claudia creates figurative and landscape paintings that feel both poetic and raw, capturing the depth and character of a person, place, or object. Born in Boston and raised in New England, Claudia earned her BA in Economics from the University of New Hampshire before beginning a career in financial services. After the birth of her three children, she returned to her lifelong passion for art, studying under established Boston-area painter Eli Cedrone and refining her distinct visual voice. Claudia’s work has been featured in multiple juried exhibitions, including shows with the Cambridge Art Association and the Cape Cod Museum of Art, where she was selected for Why Cape Cod?, Dreamscapes & Inner Worlds, and the Museum’s annual International Exhibition—an honor awarded to just 81 artists from 725 submissions. She has also presented a two-month solo exhibition in Burlington, MA supported by UpNext, and has exhibited in curated pop-ups throughout New England, including at West Elm locations. Drawing inspiration from the places she has lived—Boston, Cape Cod, London, Tokyo, and Hong Kong—Claudia creates contemporary fine art that resonates with collectors seeking expressive, textural paintings with atmosphere and soul.
