Clive R. Tyler studied Fine Art and Design at Kent State University and graduated with BFAs in both Graphic Design and Illustration. Painting with integrity and seeking the truth in subject matter, his classical oil compositional painting style is unique for soft pastel. With strong composition and attention to light, value and color theory, his paintings are made to make an emotional connection. “I wish to share the outdoor experience that I have had with nature and my interpretation as an artist with a representational impressionist point of view. I am painting the experience, not a reproduction of the view.”“I am both a plein air and studio artist, painting in natural surroundings out in the open, as well as indoors. I have always been inspired by nature and the peace found in the wilderness. I travel around America to paint rivers, snow scenes, tall aspens, and oceans with moose, bison and elk all on the list of subject matter that I enjoy painting. I want to have the viewer want to step into each painting, look around the corner, look up at the aspens, feel the temperature of the day, sense a feeling of the time, hear the sounds of leaves, or the thunder of a distant storm.”Clive creates these inviting worlds with a mix of color harmony, pigment choices, soft and hard edges, and strong design concepts. In each piece, these elements come together with the goal of evoking a memory or desire within each viewer. When Clive hears, “I know where that is”, or “I feel like I want to walk in there with the aspens”, or “I wish I was there”, that is when he considers a painting to be successful.
