Born and raised amid the natural beauty of southeastern Idaho, Craig Birch began his foray into the art world with a formal education at BYU Idaho. Not one to be confined to the traditional boundaries of artistic expression, Craig further honed his craft working in a variety of mediums, from illustration to graphic design. His talent didn't go unnoticed; he swiftly ascended the ranks to become a senior artist and later, assistant art director, shaping visual narratives for a diverse range of projects. Eager to delve deeper into the realm of fine art, Craig, alongside his wife and four children, made the pivotal decision to move to San Francisco. Enrolling at the Academy of Art University in 1984, he not only polished his skills but also gained valuable exposure. His distinct style caught the attention of notable companies like Macy’s and Saks Fifth Avenue, garnering him freelance opportunities through Oates Studios. This high-profile recognition fueled his passion and steered him towards focusing exclusively on fine art painting. After earning his BFA, Craig returned to Idaho, choosing the tranquil landscapes and slower pace as the ideal setting to raise his family and cultivate his artistic practice. Despite the challenging art market in rural Idaho, his dedication bore fruit. He was invited to showcase his work at the esteemed Charlie Russell Museum Auction in Great Falls, Montana and became a juried member of the Oil Painters of America in 2008. After a 14-year stint in Phoenix—teaching at prominent institutions like the Shemer Art Center and Scottsdale Artist’s School—Craig and his family settled in Montana's scenic Bitterroot Valley, close to Hamilton. Here, he continues to experience a strong demand for his art, solidifying his reputation as a distinguished artist. Craig Birch has been represented by Cassens Fine Art since 2019
