Dan Alexander is an American glass artist recognized for blending traditional hot-shop craftsmanship with a modern design sensibility. A graduate of Kent State University’s glass program, he went on to refine his skills in demanding professional environments, including his tenure as a Lead Gaffer and demonstrating artist at The Corning Museum of Glass. His career also includes time working with master glassblowers in Murano, large-scale production work, and directing hot-shop operations at major studios — experience that gives his work both technical depth and aesthetic clarity. Alexander’s pieces examine the relationship between structure, pattern, and motion. He draws visual influence from natural forms, global textiles, architectural geometry, and historical craft traditions. Each vessel or sculptural form is built on precision — layered patterning, controlled rhythm, and the subtle interplay of opacity, transparency, and color. His work highlights how molten material can hold memory, how movement becomes architecture, and how light animates the final form. Now based in St. Petersburg, Florida, Alexander produces a diverse body of studio work while completing private commissions and collaborating with designers and galleries. His work has been featured in national exhibitions, respected artist residencies, and international showcases, affirming his position as a strong contemporary voice in American studio glass.
