Born: 1942 Dan McCaw is a contemporary American artist who lives and works in Torrance, California, alongside his two accomplished artist sons, John and Danny. Together, they share a studio environment that fosters exploration, dialogue, and a continual reexamination of what painting can be. Trained in classical methods and influenced by the great masters at an early age, McCaw’s journey has led him toward a more interpretive and expressive visual language—one rooted in design, emotion, abstraction, and atmosphere rather than strict representation. He embraces the essence rather than the details, allowing ambiguity and depth to shape his narrative. McCaw’s art has a structure, a rhythm, and a relationship with risk. It depends on curiosity, thrives on uncertainty, and is most potent when untethered from the familiar and predictable. Dan believes curiosity functions as a gateway to endless possibilities, and that creativity does not reject form or order; it bends them to serve vision and emotional truth. Meaningful art often lies just beyond what is known—where logic breaks down and feeling takes over. To be creative is to take risks—to step into the unknown armed only with the belief that something meaningful lies ahead.w territory. Dan McCaw and his wife Stacey live in Los Angeles, Ca.
