David Hadaway was born in Redcar, England in 1963. He immigrated to South Africa in 1968. After matriculating from King Edward IIV School in Johannesburg, he attended the Wits Technicon for 3 years obtaining a National Diploma in Graphic Design, (Specializing in painting and illustration Techniques). David was then conscripted to the SADF for 2 years, being placed in a special creative unit, where he did paintings for ministers, generals and ceremonies. For the next 7 years, David worked primarily as an illustrator for the advertising industry. He began to participate in group exhibitions and has received commissions from major corporate companies such as SAB, Standard Bank, and Rand Merchant Bank. Hadaway specializes in African Wildlife in oil, and is known for his large cats. His paintings possess photographic and tactile realism, to the point that viewers are often tempted to reach out and touch the fur – only it’s paint. David has five limited editions at present. This technically accomplished artist works in close conjunction with many conservation groups and has donated work to raise funds for these groups. He is currently busy with a painting for the Jane Goodall Institute (South Africa), which will be used to raise funds for The David Greybeard Chimpanzee Sanctuary, and is further concentrating on work for exhibitions local and international. This dedicated wildlife conservationist envisages his work as away of contributing to the awareness and preservation of African wildlife and will accept commissions by request.
