David Thai is an award winning glass artist. He obtained his business degree at Ryerson University and went on to pursue his glass and design study at Sheridan College. David has studied with renowned American glass artists Michael Schunke and Dick Marques. After graduation, David was awarded a prestigious residency at the Harbourfront Centre in Toronto. He currently creates his glassworks in his studio in Oakville, where his glass blowing equipment is also used for the international Blown Away competition—a gathering of artisans from across North America competing for a residency at the Corning Museum of Glass.Strongly influenced by renowned Murano glass artist Lino Tagliapietra, David’s artistic journey has been shaped by design, form, and colour. He later incorporated Japanese silver leaf as a signature element, adding depth and luminosity to his work. His vessels and glass sculptures embody a distinctive style defined by colour, light, and a timeless contemporary aesthetic. His work is easily recognizable and exhibited in galleries across Canada and the United States. As Livio Seguso once said, “Glass is a material that seems to be born out of the sea to live in the air shaped by fire; it fascinates and ignites the imagination.” Among contemporary glass artists, David is recognized for creating work that forges a deep emotional connection and ignites the imagination. It is no surprise, given that he has also studied with Catherine Vamvakas Lay.
