Deborah Newman is an oil painter specializing in landscape painting. By trade, she was an Art Director for 15 years in San Francisco until the artist moved with her husband and three children from the bay area to the desert. Newman began painting as a creative outlet. The move to Henderson, Nevada was to be a two-year stint, which has now become a 30 year, and counting... adventure. Her deep appreciation for the natural beauty of the landscape came from Newman’s childhood spent riding her horse and hiking in the hills of southern Marin County. Her interests in nature fit the artist’s desire to paint in the "plein air" movement, and to replicate landscapes near and dear to her heart: water, Mt. Tamalpais, moisture, San Francisco, fog, etc. Aside from her two degrees in Fine Art and Graphic Design from University of Oregon and The Art Center College of Design, Deborah studied painting with landscape painters Scott Christensen in Taos and Jackson, Matt Smith at the Scottsdale Artist School, Kevin Macpherson, Randy Sexton, James Kroner, and Carl Purcell in Zion National Park. Artist Statement:“My work is influenced by Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, Edgar Payne and Fairfield Porter. I admire these painters because they were able to capture the essence of a scene with the least amount of detail; yet still capture the mood of the moment.”
