Diane Urwin is a distinguished still-life painter celebrated for her exquisitely detailed acrylic works. Her practice is defined by a devotion to the time-honoured techniques of the Dutch Old Masters; by employing classical layering and glazing, she creates meticulously crafted compositions that honour the traditions of realist painting with a focus on light, form, and quietude. Trained at Nottingham Art College, Diane began her career as a professional illustrator, with her work appearing in publications across the UK, Ireland, and Scandinavia. This early foundation in commercial precision and visual storytelling continues to underpin her fine art practice today, resulting in paintings that are technically superb and visually arresting. A devoted and longstanding member of the Society of Women Artists (SWA), Diane exhibits regularly at the Mall Galleries in London. Her career is marked by significant critical recognition, including the SWA Members Award for her painting Eight Strawberries, the SWA Annual Exhibition Award for Best Work with a Japanese Theme, and the prestigious HRH Princess Michael of Kent Best Watercolour Award. Beyond the Society, she has also achieved 'Best in Show' at the annual United Artists exhibition. Based in Berkshire, Diane continues to refine her practice, creating works that celebrate the enduring discipline of classical craftsmanship. Her paintings are featured in respected artist textbooks and are exhibited widely in galleries throughout the UK.
