Eduardo Azuaje is a Venezuelan painter and sculptor whose practice melds raw materiality with poetic abstraction. He studied at the Escuela de Artes Visuales Cristóbal Rojas in Caracas from 1985 to 1989. A founding figure of Talleres Crea 10 (1993) and co-creator of the video-art space Flash Video-Espacio 2003, Azuaje has continuously expanded the boundaries of his practice—from expressive painting to bone-based sculpture and installation. His work is deeply concerned with themes of memory, identity, and the human condition. Early paintings explored nature and indigenous traces, while his later sculptures—assembled from animal bones and mixed media—address violence, mortality and renewal in a visceral, unflinching dialogue. Azuaje has exhibited globally across Venezuela, Brazil, Cuba, France, Canada and beyond—with significant solo shows such as Memorias de lo arcano in Madrid and major museum presentations in Caracas. Recognized for his originality and daring approach, his works are included in key collections and gain attention for blending conceptual rigor, material innovation and emotional intensity.
