Working from her Atlanta studio, Ms. Braun is nationally recognized for her explorations of traditional art materials: porcelain, rattan reed, encaustic wax, fiber and 14K gold gilding, paired in uncommon sculptural applications. Her large skeletal constructions of rattan reed are coated in construction grade rubber. The artist’s limited series finger knitted wall tapestries, of factory discard dressmakers’ tissue, are gilded in 14K gold. These unexpected mergers of material result in sculpture infused with personality and movement. Braun notes “In my studio, have empowered myself to experiment with materials emancipated from their traditional applications.” Braun received a BA in Sculpture and Art Education from Indiana University. Prior to her Atlanta studio work (2005), Braun was Executive Director for a New York arts center, Art Educator and Museum Retail Manager. Her work has appeared in numerous museum exhibitions including the Ogden Museum of Southern Art (LA), San Angelo Museum of Art (TX), MESA Contemporary Arts Museum (AZ), Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (TX), Museum of Fine Arts Boston (MA), Museum of Contemporary Art Georgia (GA), American Museum of Ceramic Art (CA) and Hunterdon Art Museum, Spring 2024 (NJ). In 2014 and 2015 she received NICHE Awards for her ceramic fabrications. Braun’s work is in the collections of VISA Corp., Kamm, Meditech, Sara & Bill Morgan, and of Arthur Goldberg. Braun’s ceramic work is in Lark Books “500 Teapots II”. Braun’s sculptures are currently being acquired by the hospitality sector in addition to private collectors. Braun’s reed sculpture was recently featured in the Chicago River North Design District Fall 2023 Showcase. She has participated in two Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport exhibitions: “Ceramix: Georgia’s Creative Claymakers” (2015-16) and E-Merge: “Contemporary Atlanta Artists: (2013-14). Her work was selected for the inaugural exhibition of “Gathered” (2013)MOCA, GA. Braun is a Hambidge Fellow and has been an ambassador representing North Central Illinois College - Self Employment in the Arts (SEA) program, as well as a lifelong mentor in the arts.
