My paintings flirt with the line between fine art and decoration, using both trending andvintage colours, patterns, and objects that evoke the quotidian, the nostalgic, and the ritual aspects ofdomestic space. In my practice, I navigate the erosion of memory within interior spaces and nongeographical places, where familiarity dissolves into abstraction. How does the home that was once a vessel of certainty become a site of fragile recall and fragmentednarrative? I considered this early in my practice and began by manipulating the domestic space usingvisual disruptions such as veils, blurring, abstraction, and perspectival manipulations. I manifested ideasof intrusion, belonging, secrecy, and self-protection. Many years later, these intentions have growntowards navigating solitude, loss and acceptance. My work has evolved to include singular aspects ofdomestic life, such as floral arrangements and vignettes of space and recently, the landscape hasappeared. Specifically, Canadiana landscape, as it informs a sense of place that is not geographic, butpsychological. Our cultural sense of place has become an important element in creating work that isheavily ensconced in the emotional weight of place.
