Elmira Francine Stiggins "Ellie" (Mrs. Alonzo Carroll Wheeler). (1883-1959). B: Boston, Massachusetts. D: Houston. Wheeler's family moved to Anchorage when she was twelve. She picked cotton to earn money for paint. Wheeler was taught and encouraged by a Confederate veteran and Indian scout Ed Meyers. She raised her family before beginning an active art career. She lived in Poteet before she moved to Beeville.She taught art privately. Painter, printmaker, watercolorist, sculptor, craftsperson, pastelist, graphic artist, teacher.
