Fernando Cruz Ramírez (b. 1959, Havana, Cuba) is a Cuban painter recognized for his poetic and symbolic approach to figuration, where gesture, atmosphere, and memory intertwine. A graduate of the prestigious Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes San Alejandro, Cruz Ramírez emerged as part of the generation that helped shape contemporary Cuban painting in the late 20th century. His works—characterized by expressive brushwork, dreamlike narratives, and a subtle interplay between realism and abstraction—reflect an ongoing investigation into identity, human complexity, and the emotional landscapes that define personal and collective history. Through layered textures and nuanced color fields, he constructs spaces that feel at once intimate and universal.Cruz Ramírez has exhibited extensively across Cuba, Latin America, Europe, and the United States, participating in solo and group exhibitions in cities such as Havana, Madrid, Miami, New York, and Mexico City. His paintings are represented in numerous private collections as well as cultural institutions dedicated to Cuban and Latin American contemporary art. Today, he continues to work prolifically, contributing to the evolving dialogue of Cuban visual culture while maintaining a deeply personal, introspective artistic language.
