My artistic practice began to unfold when a life-altering incident left my sister in a new, paralyzed reality, marking me with a profound awareness of Life's ephemeral essence. This awakening became a catalyst, urging me to live fully in the present, and to seek beauty at every turn. I work in diverse mediums—paint, paper, fabric, and thread—often incorporating elements symbolic of nature, time, life, and death. This includes the integration of discarded materials as acts of mending and revival, and a statement against fleeting existence. These materials become bridges to the past, creating dialogue with ancient times as an antidote to life's impermanence. I also explore the transient nature of motherhood and my place within its embrace of connection and continuity. In the tradition of memento mori, my work attempts to speak to Life's intricate tapestry, the dance between beauty and death, between preciousness and impermanence, and an ongoing reminder of our path within these truths. Gabriela Domville was born and raised in Mexico City and has been residing in San Diego, California for the past 22 years.
