Biography — Gaby HerbsteinGaby Herbstein (b. 1969, Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a celebrated contemporary visual artist and photographer whose work spans art, fashion, and socially engaged series. Beginning her career in 1990 as a fashion photographer, Herbstein quickly expanded her creative practice into personal, conceptual projects that use imagery to raise consciousness about social, environmental, and spiritual themes. Over more than two decades, she has developed a distinctive visual language that blends surreal, poetic composition with deep concern for universal wellbeing, preservation of nature, and human identity.Herbstein’s work has been exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, including significant presentations at the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA) in Argentina, the Darwin Museum in Moscow, and the IDB Staff Association Art Gallery in Washington, D.C. She has participated in major art events and cultural contexts such as Art Basel Miami and exhibitions in the United States, Russia, China, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, and Peru.Herbstein has been recognized with numerous awards and distinctions. Highlights include the Gold Medal and Silver Medal at the Prix de la Photographie (Paris) in 2015 for her Estados de Conciencia project, the Clover Prize from Swarovski honoring influential artists, and multiple honors such as the Latin American Photography and Illustration Contest (Phi) and the Creative Woman Award from the Circle of Creative Women and the University of Palermo. She also received the Best Book of the Year award from the Cámara Argentina de Publicaciones for her book Aves del Paraíso and has been acknowledged for her social commitment by Fundación CILSA and Fundación Huésped.Herbstein’s projects, such as Estados de Conciencia, Divina Belleza, La Diablada, and Creer Para Ver, reflect her ongoing engagement with inner transformation, cultural identity, and collective awareness. Whether addressing ecological fragility, spiritual evolution, or human connection, her work transcends traditional photographic practices to become a multidimensional exploration of image, idea, and meaning.
