Born in Hawaii and raised in the Samoan Islands, Gail Alger is a water-media artist who spends winters amid the red rock landscapes of southern Utah and summers on the Oregon Coast. A lifelong maker inspired by the natural world, she began painting after retiring from teaching in 2008 and quickly found her passion in watercolor. Over the years, she has studied with both local and national artists and exhibited her work in Utah, Hawaii, Oregon, and with the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies (WFWS). Initially known for her realistic, bold depictions of flowers and plants with striking light and shadow, Gail later transitioned to acrylics, drawn to their vivid color and durability. Painting remains her sanctuary—therapeutic, rewarding, and ever-evolving—as she continues to explore new techniques with her two faithful studio companions by her side.
